Transylvanian Villages in Romania
Monday, 22 April 2013I’ve recently joined the board of Global Heritage Fund – my trips last year to the amazing ruins of Banteay Chhmar in Cambodia and earlier this year to the Lost City, Ciudad Perdida, in Colombia were both to GHF sites.
GHF are launching a new project, to protect Romanian villages in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania. These villages are closely related to the Saxony region of Germany – where I travelled last year. Since the end of the Cold War they’ve lost population and today we’re in danger of losing the ‘last outpost of a truly Medieval landscape left in Europe.’
I’ve never been to Romania so clearly I’ve got a good excuse to go there now! Perhaps later this year. Meanwhile if you’d like to help kick the project off by helping to build a brick making kiln then click here for more information.
