Dropping by the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia the other morning I encountered this rather nice circular, shallow, blue pool in which a bunch of white bowls were floating. ▼

DELL Streak CapturedThey gently circulated around, occasionally gently clicking up against each other or, with a gentle ‘ding’ bouncing off the edge of the pond and continuing on their voyage. Lovely! Titled clinamen 2013 the piece is by French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot.

◄ There’s often something interesting in the entrance lobby of the gallery. Three years ago I encountered Cosmo McMurty, that’s the name of this giant inflatable rabbit by New Zealand artist Michael Parekowhai. He’s also done Jim McMurty, which looks like the same big bunny except he’s flat on his back, asleep, or possibly dead.

My other favourite big art work this year was Goodbye My Love by Cuban artist Esterio Segura, I encountered his red heart airplanes while walking around New York City. ▼
