A Bradt Guidebook to Socotra – a crowdfunder plea

Sunday, 9 August 2020

▲ On the Deleisha sand dune on the Indian Ocean island of Socotra, part of the country of Yemen. It feels like half a lifetime ago, but in fact that was 11 March 2020, only 5 months ago.

It was my most recent overseas trip and it looks like it may be the last for awhile. Currently I’m in Melbourne, Victoria where we’re in a State of Disaster and I’m locked down to travelling no more than 5km from my front door. I’ll be posting something soon on where my bicycle travels have taken me within that tightly constrained radius!

Meanwhile Hilary Bradt of Bradt Guides in the UK has put together a Socotra Guidebook and is determined to get it published despite all the reasons why guidebook publishing right now should be a no go area. Hilary was in Socotra just a couple of weeks before me and I sent her notes from my own travels there. She’s got a Crowdfunder project up and running and is already more than half way to hitting the ‘print this book’ button. You can see me agreeing that it’s worth supporting on Hilary’s video.
