Fra Mauro Map 271A quick trip to Canberra for the opening of the National Library of Australia’s Mapping our World exhibit. It’s a superb exhibition, open until 10 March 2014. It features maps from the National Library’s own collection, from media mogul Kerry Stoke’s superb private collection, the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, the British Library, the Vatican Library and, most particularly, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice. Their superb Fra Mauro Map of the World dates from 1453 and this is the first time it has been displayed outside Venice.

I’ll be back to speak about my own interest in maps on 26 November. I definitely want to have a second look at the exhibit.
